In the past year I’ve bought a ton of products that were strongly recommended to me by YouTubers, bloggers and friends. And while most of the time these products were absolutely amazing, sometimes they weren’t, at all. So, to prevent you from making the same mistakes I made, I’ll be telling you all about my bad purchases from the past.
Disclaimer! Keep in mind that not everybody likes the same things, so even tho I might not like these products, don’t let this stop you from wanting to try them yourself.
1. Sephora honey lib scrub
We don’t have a Sephora in Belgium so when I bought this on a trip to Italy I was more than excited to try it out. When I did tho, it was such a bummer. To be quite blunt, it might even be the worst product on this list. It has this horrible synthetic sweet taste when you put the product on your lips that stays on there for hours after washing the scrub off and after using it my lips always hurt so badly. I know it’s a scrub, but I guess it was a little too much for me to handle.
2. Pixi overnight glow serum
The Pixi glow serum is a product I would see all over Instagram and YouTube, so I decided to give it a try. I’m not gonna tell you this was a super bad product, but I wasn’t quite convinced ether. First of, one drop consist of way too much product if you only want to apply it on certain areas like me. Secondly, I thought the product was way too thick and sticky and it made me feel like I was going to bed with some kind of thick moisturizer or sunscreen on my face. It just didn’t give me that clean and fresh feeling that I need before going to bed. And lastly, after using the serum for a while I honestly thought my face looked rather greasy than it did glowy.
3. Burt’s Bees lip balm
I’m honestly really scared to comment on this product because it seems to be so loved, but I guess it just isn’t my thing. The fact that the lip balms are called ‘apricot’ and ‘peony’ threw me off so much. I mean I get that it’s just a name, but I think it’s so weird they both have the exact same mint smell and taste. Once they were on my lips I never really saw a color difference ether. So I guess I kinda feel cheated because it feels like having bought one chapstick for the price of two.
4. Maybelline New York total temptation mascara
This mascara honestly isn’t the worst, but I wouldn’t recommend it to you either. It promises way more than it delivers and for the price of €13,99 you can, to my opinion, get way better mascaras.
5. The Body Shop (mango) hand cream
I’ve never been a big fan of The Body Shop, but I have a few friends who really like their products so when they went in to buy something I decided to try this hand cream. Before telling you my opinion on this product I want to add that I have pretty sensitive skin and that this cream probably wasn’t right for me from the start. It smelled great and I don’t have a lot of complaints, only the fact that to me it seemed like this product didn’t really absorb into my skin. It felt more like a greasy layer over my hands which just wasn’t a nice feeling and didn’t give me the soft hands I so desperately needed.
